Killing time

This post is just a random one so I can use up some time before the next thing on my [being sarcastic tone] busy [end sarcastic tone] schedule on my very exciting first day of actual AMS (that's Advanced Medical Studies- pretty much a year spent doing research, with a thesis at the end and hopefully a publication!). Now that the purpose of this post is known, you can expect this entry to be quite irrelevant, unlike all my other posts, if you'll believe that.

I won't bother with a recount of my day. It's boring to write, and probably more so to read. At least I know more about what my project topic is, if not any more details on the project itself. That is to say, I'm still quite lost in regards to exactly what I'll be doing for this year.

Er, now that I'm typing this I realise that I don't have as much spare time as I originally thought. Curse these slow loading times! Well ok, it's not really the computer's fault. I spent some time looking up random stuff on Wikipedia and playing some of the games that are on this computer, hehe. Including some kind of mini-golf game, and the classic Asteroids.

Also new is that the computers here all run on the operating system Linux. It's all a new experience for me, but the interface resembles a Mac-PC hybrid. Their love-child, if you will. That is, if operating systems could in fact bear children.

As a side note, this computer lab is called BIL, which was amusing because it's eerily reminiscent of HAL (from 2001: A Space Odyssey). Hm, let's hope this project works out better than the mission from 2001. Although, the images seen by Bowman (I think that's his name...feel free to correct me) could be represented by the images I'll be seeing while researching. Creepy.
